How it works

  1. Type the size the form allows, such as 300 KB or 2 MB.
  2. Choose your PDF.
  3. Press Compress. You get the best quality that fits under your limit, or a plain explanation if the PDF cannot get that small.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything happens inside your browser. The file never leaves your device, which matters for ID cards, certificates and other personal documents.

How does it pick the quality?

It first tries shrinking the file without touching the text. If that is not enough, it redraws the pages as images, starting at a sharp 150 DPI and stepping down only as far as it must. You get the highest quality that fits, not the smallest possible file.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

We aim for 1,000. Upload forms disagree on which they mean, and a file under the 1,000-byte figure passes both kinds of check.

Why can I no longer select the text?

To reach a small size, each page is redrawn as an image. If the original was already small enough with its text kept, you get that version instead, and the page tells you.

What if it cannot reach my size?

It tells you the smallest size it managed. A long document may simply have too many pages for a very small limit; splitting it, or uploading only the pages asked for, usually solves that.
