How it works

  1. Type the maximum size the form allows, such as 30 KB.
  2. If the form also gives a width and height in pixels, enter them under Exact size.
  3. Choose your image, check the preview, and download the JPG.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The image is resized and compressed inside your browser and never leaves your device, which matters for ID photos and signatures.

How does it keep the photo clear?

It first lowers the JPEG quality only as far as needed. If that is not enough, it makes the image a little smaller instead of compressing harder, because a smaller sharp photo looks better than a blocky full-size one.

The form also gives a size in pixels. Can I set that?

Yes. Enter the width and height under Exact size. The image is cropped from the centre to that shape rather than stretched, so a face or signature is never squashed.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

We aim for 1,000. Forms disagree on which they mean, and a file under the 1,000-byte figure passes both kinds of check.

How do I know which size my form wants?

The form’s instructions state it, usually as a maximum in KB and sometimes as width and height in pixels. Limits differ from one form to the next, so check yours rather than relying on a general rule.
