Compress an image to under 100 KB

A phone photo is usually 2 to 5 MB; plenty of forms and websites accept 100 KB at most. This tool gets your image under the limit with as little visible loss as possible, right in your browser.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The image is resized and compressed inside your browser and never leaves your device, which matters for ID photos and signatures.

Will my photo look worse at 100 KB?

Usually not noticeably. 100 KB is enough for a sharp photo around 1,000 pixels across, which is larger than most forms and profile pictures display it.

The form also gives a size in pixels. Can I set that?

Yes. Enter the width and height under Exact size. The image is cropped from the centre to that shape rather than stretched, so a face or signature is never squashed.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Choose a photo from your gallery or take one with the camera, compress it, and upload it from the same phone.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

We aim for 1,000. Forms disagree on which they mean, and a file under the 1,000-byte figure passes both kinds of check.
